Electrical Market 2/2015

How does the merger with Iskra affect the current operations of Helios?

First and foremost, the company underwent a thorough reorganization. The new situation prompted us to take steps towards changing the existing management model. It was necessary to modify individual stages of decision-making and implementation processes related to the expansion of the company's organizational structure. One of the significant elements of these actions was the reorganization of the commercial division, which until now encompassed all import, sales, and marketing activities. Thoughtful separation of individual departments and the projects they implemented, as well as employment restructuring, resulted in improved work and increased effectiveness of ongoing activities.

The aforementioned reorganization allowed us to adapt Helios' operations to today's realities. Market demands and changes occurring within it necessitate bold steps. A modern enterprise must be ready to implement changes. Otherwise, it remains an archaic entity whose presence on the market can only be symbolic. We are not afraid to take these steps in such a way that, with a controlled level of risk, we not only maintain our position in the market but also consistently strengthen our established standing and systematically increase our market share.

Thanks to the introduced changes, we gained the opportunity to supplement our product offer with new light sources that were previously unavailable to us. I am referring here to some specialized, signal, and various device bulbs. We have also expanded our cooperation in the field of high-pressure lamps, which constitute an important and constantly developing segment of our product offer. We have gained access to inexpensive and, at the same time, good production materials, which allows us to more effectively meet the needs of our customers.

What challenges does the management board of Helios face?

Our biggest challenge is to build a coherent and developmental production and sales strategy for the coming years. Bearing in mind the need to adapt the company to the changes occurring in the market, we cannot forget the tradition developed over eighty years. We must, therefore, face the difficult task of modernizing the company in such a way as not to squander previous values, achievements, and market position, and also not to lose the trust placed in the company.

One of our main goals is expansion into foreign markets, and we are interested not only in European markets. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new distribution policy in this regard and implement it effectively. A major challenge is the realization of strategic goals while maintaining the company's production character, which is a considerable challenge in today's realities.

In what direction is the product offer developing?

Our offer persistently follows the general market trend related to LED lighting. Last year, we proposed to our customers a refreshed line of light sources, which was very well received and is finding its place in the market. Customers are demanding increasingly high-quality products for an increasingly lower price. We make every effort to meet their expectations. I can reveal that from this year onwards, the range of LED products we offer will be expanded with new solutions and assortment produced in Katowice.

We are aware of how important the complementarity of the offer is. This is essential for satisfying the needs of the largest possible group of recipients, but also for their convenience. Therefore, we are also modifying the offer of other light sources. We are expanding it with products that are also applicable in market niches. We are aware of the increasingly shorter product life cycle, especially those using new technological solutions. Therefore, we remain sensitive to customer signals, which we successively respond to.

How to stay competitive in the lighting market?

Constant market monitoring, observation of trends, and customer demand are essential in this regard. We must be flexible and react to market behavior, both in terms of demand and the dynamically developing competitive environment. We are particularly sensitive to signals concerning market niches. A quick and accurate response to these signals also requires the implementation of solutions that improve work at individual stages of the product life cycle. For example, we have introduced solutions that support warehouse operations, allowing us to fulfill our customers' orders more quickly.

It is important to constantly build and maintain relationships with contractors, especially with customers, which is the basis for stable company development. We have a strong asset in the form of a hard-earned, over eighty-year-old tradition. This is a success that few companies can boast of. It should be emphasized that it is not just about long-term survival in the market, but also uninterrupted production in the native plant. However, it must be remembered that this entails a great responsibility that we bear for this tradition.

One should also not forget about industry events that provide an overview of the current state of the market. It is worth participating in all significant international specialized fairs. Based on systematically collected information, well-thought-out sales strategies can be developed, which are essential given today's market specifics. And there are results. Helios is dynamically increasing its share in the domestic and export markets. We can speak of a several percent annual increase, which allows us to look optimistically at the company's future.

In which areas of lighting does Helios beat the competition?

Our strength is versatility – we offer a wide range of products that meet various customer needs. Undoubtedly, our strong point is zoological and breeding lighting, which is particularly important in export sales. However, Helios heaters also enjoy many years of customer recognition on the domestic market.

Discharge lamps also play an important role, produced using increasingly better technological solutions. We also cannot forget about the rich offer of specialized bulbs, which we produce in response to specific industrial needs.
